Social Innovator in Arts and Culture Award

We are thrilled to share with you that at an award ceremony at the Artscape Theatre Centre on Sunday 10 November 2019, MusicWorks and our Music for Life programme was announced the winner in the category: Social Innovator in Culture and Arts. The award formed part of the Community Chest Social Innovations Awards. Out of 200 entries from across South Africa, only 14 organisations were selected as winners in their various categories.  For MusicWorks, an honour and an endorsement such as this is immeasurable. The Music for Life project is targeted at communities on the Cape Flats where high levels of violence, gangsterism and poverty negatively impact the well-being of children growing up here. For these children, the risk of early school drop-out and becoming involved in destructive activities such as gangs and substance abuse from a young age is extremely high. The Music For Life project unlocks the potential in children so that they become resilient, creative beings; able to dream; and capable of positively contributing to society. MTCC Receives an Impumelelo Innovations Award

After almost a year of rigorous evaluations, the Music Therapy Community Clinic was shortlisted to receive an award from the prestigious Impumelelo Innovations Award Trust. At a ceremony in May, our organisation received a Silver award for our pioneering work in the field of Music Therapy within communities of the Cape Peninsula. Out of several hundred applications, only 24 NGOs across South Africa were considered prize-worthy. We feel very honoured to have been recognised and are humbled to be part of such an illustrious group.

Music Therapy Community Clinic wins prestigious international award

At a glittering gala event in Washington DC on 14th October 2010, attended by Heads of State, royalty, ambassadors and other dignitaries, the Music Therapy Community Clinic was honoured with a prestigious award from the Mentor International Foundation. Mentor is a non-governmental organisation that works globally to prevent drug misuse in young people. Their primary focus is the health and well-being of children with the aim of allowing them to develop to their full potential. A total of only four awards are presented globally each year, so we feel especially honoured to receive the Innovation Award which “recognises organisations whose work indicates significant promise for achieving effective outcomes in preventing drug abuse” for our Heideveld Trauma Project (Music for Life). The office was abuzz with excitement as our executive director, Sunelle Fouche, was whisked off to Washington DC, USA to receive the trophy and financial award at a black tie gala evening held at the 5-star Four Seasons Hotel. The awards were presented in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen of Sweden. Sunelle also attended a pre-gala luncheon where she was delighted to meet Her Majesty as well as a host of other dignitaries including royalty and ambassadors from across the globe. She also… Read More »Music Therapy Community Clinic wins prestigious international award
